The women’s team from VfL Wolfsburg have taken a major step towards a fourth triumph in the DFB-Cup. Away to SC Freiburg on Sunday afternoon, the Wolves eventually secured a narrow 2-1 (0-1/1-1/2-1) victory after extra-time. The goals for the Green-Whites were scored by Caroline Hansen (52’) and an extra-time winner from Ewa Pajor (96'). The hosts had initially taken the lead through Hasret Kayikci (19'). For the fourth season in succession, the Wolves overcame the side from the Breisgau region to take a place in the final of Germany’s domestic cup. VfL will face SC Sand, who secured their final spot with a 4-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday. The game is a repeat of last season’s cup final clash. The cup final will take place in Cologne on Saturday, May 27th (kick-off 16:15 CET), when the Wolves will be looking to claim the title a fourth time – and the third time in a row.
"Expectedly close cup tie"
Ralf Kellermann: "That was an expectedly close cup tie. We were completely asleep for the first thirty minutes, but in the second-half we showed our true selves and did very well. We deservedly got the equaliser and had a massive chance to seal the win before extra-time. After the 2-1, Freiburg risked everything and there were a couple of instances when we had the luck on our side. Respect also to SC Sand, who have also qualified for the final again. We’re looking forward to Cologne."
