At the end of their third consecutive packed week of football, the VfL Wolfsburg ladies have taken over in top-spot in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga. On match-day 16, goals from Caroline Hansen (38' pen.), Emily van Egmond (45', 77') and Pernille Harder (48') led the Wolves to a 4-0 (2-0) win over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, in front of a crowd of 1,214 spectators at the AOK Stadion. A slip-up by previous league leaders Turbine Potsdam, who could only manage a 1-1 draw in Essen, sees the Green-Whites take over at the top of the table with a narrowly better goal-difference.
"Nice momentary situation"
Ralf Kellermann: "We initially struggled to get into the game. Considering the strain of the past few weeks, which were also psychologically very draining, we maybe lacked some freshness. If we’d gone behind at that point, it could have been very difficult for us, but luckily Almuth Schult made a couple of excellent stops. We then got our goals at the best possible time. Although we failed to add another goal or two, I am very satisfied with the game. Things are going very well for us right now and it’s very enjoyable watching this team play. Going into the break as league leaders is a very nice momentary situation."
