The Bundesliga ladies from VfL Wolfsburg are through to the semi-finals of the DFB-Cup for the third year in succession. In Wednesday evening’s quarter-final clash at FC Bayern Munich, coach Ralf Kellermann’s side ran out eventual 2-0 (0-0) winners. A substitute’s strike from Tessa Wullaert (73'), along with an own-goal by Gina Lewandowski (85') were enough to put the Wolves through in a tight tie, which was clearly dominated by the Green-Whites. For the back-to-back title holders, it was the thirteenth consecutive victory in the competition. The semi-final will be played out on April 16th. The VfL ladies will face their counter-parts from FC Bayern again on Sunday, March 19th (kick-off 17:00 CET, live on Sport1), when Kellermann’s eleven play host to the German champions at the AOK Stadion in the Bundesliga’s top-of-the-table clash.
Ralf Kellermann: "Bayern dominated the early minutes, but after a quarter-hour we completely took control – it was only a goal that eluded us. It was a similar situation in the second-half. Bayern came out with a lot of momentum, but we played out the clear chances, stuck to our plan and deservedly made it 1-0. We subsequently kept things tight and, on the whole, were highly deserved winners. On Sunday we can expect a very different game and we cannot afford to rest on this success. That said, this win, and the way in which it came about, boost our self-confidence further still."
